Lots of talk today over the new BBC news multimedia programmes department. We went through a succession of managers and editors who sought to explain the inexplicable and defend the indefensible. We are told that it's all about the detail - this is not 'back of a fag packet stuff', yet one network news editor was unable to confirm whether the savings represented 20% of the budget or 40%. We also had a Monty Python moment as the head of the 'news interactive programmes' team told us that his new department will be called the 'news programmes interactive' team, however, hold-off on that headed paper order, things move fast in this multi-media world, they are now considering...a change of name.
