Today's announcement of a major retreat from public service broadcasting by ITV could have a devastating impact on NUJ members. It will also, if approved, result in a significantly worse offering to viewers. This has implications far beyond those directly affected and we at the NUJ will fight it. ITV, Ofcom and the government have a duty to safeguard news provision across the UK; if they collude in its destruction it would be unforgiveable.
