Last night a reception was held in memory of NUJ journalist, Martin O' Hagan who was murdered because of his investigative journalism. Although under tragic circumstances, the event was surprisingly upbeat, a celebration of the life of a committed journalist and trade unionist.

Alan pops in
We were all so overjoyed when Alan Johnston was released. He came in to see us today to say hello and thanks. I hope he is able to settle down now. I suspect he will want a bit of quiet anonymity for a while. Perhaps should have thought of that before shamelessly asking for him to pose for a photo.
We got news today of the inquest dates for Kate Peyton. It starts on the 5th December and is listed for a week.

Inquest into death of Kate Peyton
Today I was at a 'pre inquest review' regarding the death of Kate Peyton, BBC producer and NUJ member, who tragically lost her life whilst on an assignment to Somalia in 2005. The inquest is likely to be set for the end of the year. How can we stop these deaths? Should journalists simply stay away from dangerous places?
