We all know that the BBC has announced 2,500 jobs to go, right? Well no, they say, there are new jobs as well so the real figure is more like 1,800. This net figure has been widely reported but is inaccurate.
When we asked if the 'new jobs' would be made available to those who wished to stay and re-train, no they said. They estimate that 8-10% of staff will be able to be be redeployed. 200 new jobs but 2,500 to go. What about the move to Salford, not mentioned in the recent announcements? This will likely result in another 300 jobs being shed. So, the true figure for jobs cuts so far at the BBC is 2,600.
For an organisation which prides itself on accuracy and trust, a bit more honesty around the true nature of the problems we face wouldn't go amiss.
