High Noon at the BBC

Was the BBC prepared to continue breaking the law by failing to hold corporate level talks with it's staff representatives - the joint-unions? Apparently not.

Today the corporation made it's first sensible move by giving a commitment to meet with the unions to see if a framework can be agreed, in order for meaningful neogtiations to take place.

The joint-unions had given the BBC until 12 noon today to withdraw any redundancy letters.

The BBC has done this but puts its own deadline of November 5th on the talks, saying it's keen to make progress, for the sake of staff!

The joint-unions are always committed to resolving issues speedily through negotiations but are not prepared to let the BBC ignore either the legislation or existing agreed statements at the expense of members who deserve fair treatment.
BBC management now has to win back the respect of staff and show themselves worthy of running this organisation, and not behave like cowboys at High Noon.
