NO NEED TO WAIT-IT'S SPEED-NEWS AT EIGHT

John and I (Kate) were at the Mailbox in Birmingham yesterday to listen to English Regions proposals for the new 90 second bulletin at 8pm. The BBC is aiming to launch the 60 seconds of network news and 30 seconds of regional news output in October. Divisions affected are in the process of consulting the unions on issues from impact on rotas to training.

It's good to see a regional element to the bulletin - just don't blink! This could make speed-dating look like a long-term relationship.

BTW, we didn't take the photo at 8pm and for the purposes of clarity, that isn't John's watch. There was no persuading him to alter time for a reconstructed photo - nothing to do with editorial standards, just the fact that Big Ben sets time by John.
